NAMEMASTER version 051600:

The following are just a few examplesto give you an idea of how to use NameMaster.

CHANGING EXTENSIONS:
Changing extensions is very simple, and can be done with any of NAMEMASTER's processes. To change the extension, simply enter the new extension in the "New ext" text box. It is not necessary to enter the ".", as NAMEMASTER will do this for you, if need be.

To change only the extension:
1. select the files you want
2. add an "*" to the "New name" box
3. set the "Numbering" to zero
4. and enter the new extension in the "New ext" box.
5. click the "Rename" button.

To change the names to a sequence of numbers without retaining the original filenames:
1. select the files
2. leave the "New name" box blank
3. set the "Numbering" to the desired position.
4. click the "Rename" button.

To add a sequence of numbers to the names:
1. Select the files
2. place an "*" in the "New name" box
3. Set the "Numbering" option to the desired position.
4. Click the "Rename" button.

To change the names and add a sequence of numbers:
1. Select the files.
2. Enter the new name in the "New name" box.
3. Set the "Numbering" option to the desired position.
4. Click the "Rename" button.

USING THE BOOLEANS:
At this writing, only the "*" and "#" are usable in the "New names" box.

NAMEMASTER translates the "*" to mean the original filename, so NAMEMASTER will actually replace the "*" with this, in whatever position it's found. For example, if you wanted to rename a group of files, the first being "test.txt", and you wanted the new names to include a new name you detirmine (we will use "NEW" for this example), the original name, a "_", then a sequence of numbers (2 digits, for this example), you would do this:
1. Select the files
2. In the "New name" box, enter the new name "NEW", then an "*", then the "_".
3. Set the "Numbering" option to "2".
4. Click the "Rename" button.

The result of this example would be, the first file, which was "test.txt", is renamed to "NEWtest_01.txt".
To change the order of "NEW" and "test" within the name, just place the "*" before "NEW", instead of after, as we did here. The result is now "testNEW_01.txt"

NAMEMASTER replaces the "#" in "New name" box with the number generated from the "Numbering" option. If you want the number at the beginning, instead of at the end, simply put the "#" in the "New name" box, then enter the desired new name (or the "*", if you'd like to keep the original name). You can put the number between text, at the beginning, or at the end. You can use it with or without the "*", but please on't use it in conjunction with "Numbering 0", or you may be disappointed. "Numbering 0" produces no numbers (except what may already be in the filename).

If you have problems renaming a large amount of files due to filename conflicts (ie: the new filename already exists in the directory) I suggest first UNDO the rename, then rename to some off-the-wall filename convention (believe it or not, I use "off-the-wall" hehehe..works !), then rename again to your desired convention.
